The externship program is designed for junior and senior dental students who desire additional training in oral surgery and exposure to outpatient and hospital-oriented oral and maxillofacial surgical care. For students inclined towards oral and maxillofacial surgery as a career, the externship provides an excellent opportunity for students to participate within the framework of the residency training program. Externs will be supervised by the OMS faculty and residents. Goals of the externship include: • Learn the scope of OMS • Gain experience in management of the hospitalized patient as well as ambulatory dentoalveolar surgery • Obtain experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning of OMS diseases and conditions • Provide opportunity to evaluate the OMS Residency at Mayo Clinic. To be eligible, students must currently be a junior or senior at a U.S. or Canadian dental school and in good academic standing. To be considered for the program, students must submit a Visiting Dental Student Application, curriculum vitae/resume, personal statement, dental school transcripts, CBSE scores (if available) and a letter of recommendation.
