The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery offers a one to two week externship opportunity to highly motivated dental students desiring to explore the full scope of the specialty beyond what students are traditionally exposed to during their dental training. All applicants must be a matriculated third or fourth year dental student at an ADA-accredited dental school and in good standing with their respective institution. This externship program gives the student an opportunity to gain insight into OMS resident life. Externs perform dentoalveolar surgery, participate in daily hospital rounds, assist with operating room cases, participate in all lectures and seminars, and stand duty with the on-call resident. This experience will provide the extern with the opportunity to evaluate his/her own interest in the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery and, in particular, this program.
